Brooklyn
Hello! My name is Brooklyn (you can call me B!)

Words cannot explain how excited and grateful I am about the opportunity to come live, learn, work, and play at the Ranch.

I am originally from a small town in Michigan but have done a lot of wandering and lived all over. I am currently coming over from just outside of Dallas, TX. After my time at the Ranch, I plan on starting to think more seriously about where I’d like to put down roots.

As for my background, I originally went to school to study Nutrition Science and had a practice for several years as a Holistic Nutritionist and Yoga Instructor studying and working with everything from meditation and breathwork to ayurvedic nutrition / lifestyle interventions.  The time I spent in this field has dramatically changed my outlook on the world and how I live my life. Even further, it inspired me to deepen my understanding of and connection to nature. I started thinking and learning about sustainability and our relationship to the planet as well as how our environments and lifestyles affect our health and happiness. These ponderings are what eventually lead me to the career change I am making now.

Currently, I am working on my master’s degree in architecture with a personal focus on sustainable residential and community design. I decided to take a year off from my program to pursue this opportunity at the Ranch to gain real world experience of how a sustainable community can exist and operate outside of my conceptual studies. My long-term goal is to utilize what I learn about permaculture, architecture, natural building, and community dynamics to work with and contribute to healthier, happier, more sustainable communities (starting with intentionally re-designing my own lifestyle).

Outside of my studies, I am a working Artist and Muralist. I love to paint, cook, read, dance, garden, hike, climb rocks, and just about anything active / outdoors! I’ve dabbled in aerial arts and acrobatics and would eventually love to weave these kinds of things back into my life. I find that dancing, climbing, tumbling etc. really keeps the child in me alive!

I am so looking forward to 2024 as a year of immersing myself into life at Rancho Mastatal and deepening my relationships with myself, community, and Mama Earth.
