Kara Anderson
Kara grew up in Ontario, before making the rainy West Coast of British Columbia home nearly a decade ago. She studied Architecture and Urban Design in university, with a focus on sustainable design practices. Since graduating she has worked across many different fields, including software implementation, publishing, and architectural drafting. Between these different paths, Kara’s interests have been drawn back to natural building, sustainable practices, ecological restoration, and community led design.
She was first introduced to natural building in a workshop with the Mudgirls Building Collective in BC, and is keen get her hands dirty and practice her skills in her year at Rancho Mastatal. As a designer and as an artist, she fell in love with the possibilities of natural building.
Kara has a deep love of the outdoors and adventure, and is always looking for opportunities to experience unique parts of the world. From hiking the Inca Trail in Peru, the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, to the stunning rainforest trails of the Pacific Northwest, Kara feels most alive when she’s out in nature.
The other love of Kara’s life is books. She can most often be found with a book (or three) in hand, immersed in every kind of fiction, and everything else from histories, memoir, and popular science. She is also a writer, and is fascinated by how the stories we tell define the places we inhabit.
