DESCRIPTION

We have created this incredibly affordable and unique natural building opportunity for people who want a hands-on immersive natural plastering experience.

THIS IS NOT A WORKSHOP!

You will be trained to apply an earthen base coat onto our existing wattle and daub walls. We will work everyday on this project (see daily schedule below). It is recommended that you are in good physical shape, can lift 30lbs and are wanting to use your body to work and participate in the creation of a real life naturally made building.

Previous experience plastering and using a hawk and trowel will be helpful. Everyone will be required to demonstrate their technical ability on practice panels before moving on to the real life walls. If you have no prior experience we will work on training you in the initial phase of the bootcamp to get you up to speed, hence the name bootcamp.

The total cost of the intensive is only $100 and includes lodging in a shared bunkhouse and all meals.

We are making this opportunity affordable and accessible to everyone as we expect you to engage in full work days. The work will be physical, requiring you to lift full buckets of mix and use your body mixing, applying, sifting etc….

The daily schedule will be

6:00 - 7:30am Morning snack and coffee

7:30 - 10:00am Morning work party

10:00 - 11:30am Brunch

11:30 - 3:00pm Afternoon work party

3:00 - 3:30 Snack

3:30 - 6:30 Downtime

6:30 Dinner

You will be working with experienced natural builders and will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk about our experiences and opinions, however, practice will be purely based on applying the base coat plaster to the wattle and daub walls.

How is this different from an educational workshop

The purpose of this bootcamp is to move forward one of the largest buildings we have ever built by plastering the walls. We are reaching out to our community and looking for people who are interested in a hands on fully immersive experience where days will be filled with mixing, sifting, application and having fun plastering. Come prepared to get muddy, tired, sweaty and fully integrated into the work of Rancho Mastatal.

This is very different to one of our workshops where we cover many, many topics within natural building and have theory and questions sessions, all designed to give students the opportunity to try out lots of different techniques and get a well rounded experience. start and ARRIVAl dates

Bootcamp begins at 7.30 a.m. on June 30th.  The night before the intensive begins, June 29th, is included in the cost.  You must arrive before 6.30 pm the night before. We will not be able to accommodate you after this time.

departure dates

The last day of Bootcamp is July 4.  The night of July 4 is included in the cost.

These prices include shared dorm style lodging, all meals, and full access to Rancho Mastatal and its private wildlife refuge.

LANGUAGE

This intensive will be in English, though many of us are fluent in Spanish to help facilitate non english speakers.
