My name is Kyler Kradle, I am 23 years old and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. I've recently graduated from Illinois State University studying Geography and Environmental Studies. I spent my senior year studying abroad at Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica. Taking classes like Agroecology and Permaculture, my eyes and mind were opened to a whole new world I didn't know existed. With a hands-on and fieldtrip based learning environment, I was embedded into my studies for the first time in my life. These field trips brought me to Mastatal on two separate occasions for both permaculture design and botany studies. I got a quick glimpse of everything the ranch is working on and was able to participate in different activities, but it's hard to jam their variety of information and knowlange into a weekend. I applied for the apprenticeship position with the intention of continuing my studies where I can practice and learn with like minded people in a growing community working towards something bigger than myself.
On a more personal level, some of my hobbies include travel, all aspects of outdoor activities, and a passion for drawing. I am very interested in the mapping and design aspects in permaculture focusing on sustainable circular systems and being able to illustrate my ideas. Growing up my family and I went on long road trips and started to find more of a love for hiking and the outdoors as I got older. During my summers away from college I got internships in different locations like Colorado and Alaska working on trail crews where I can work outdoors. I strive to push myself and try new things, breaking away from societal norms to see what the world really has to offer. I am excited and eager to grow, create, and expand my knowledge this upcoming year at Rancho Mastatal.
