Natural Building:  Bamboo Construction

DESCRIPTION

An intensive training in traditional and contemporary bamboo construction techniques.  During the class we will build an entire medium-sized bamboo structure.  Course material includes:

  • Harvest and treatment of bamboo as a building material
  • Various bamboo connections for construction including bolting, lashing, pegging and fishmouth joinery
  • Techniques for cutting, splitting, drilling, bending and making strips out of bamboo
  • Practical applications on a full-scale building
  • Use of bamboo for walls, floors and ceilings
  • Key bamboo design principles
  • Basic furniture joinery
  • Tools for working with bamboo

Martin Coto
Rancho Mastatal has been working with Martin for over a decade and a half.  He has worked with groups and on projects in Costa Rica, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua, Curacao and United States. He has more than 30 years of experience in Latin America designing, building, educating and giving consultancy in Natural Building projects.

course start and ARRIVAl dates

The class begins at 9 a.m. on January 18, 2018.  The night before the class begins, January 17, 2018, is included in the cost of the class.  

course end and departure dates

The last day of the class is January 24, 2018.  The night of January 24, 2018 is included in the cost of the class.

ACCOMMODATIONS
